Creating your future - Careers

ECS Careers Fair and Hub web site

ECS students are in constant demand by leading employers nationally and internationally. Our students are highly valued for the breadth and depth of their knowledge of different technologies, as well as for the strong mix of practical and theoretical understanding gained in their degree programmes.

To ensure that our students have the best possible chance of achieving the job that they want, ECS has instituted its own annual Careers Fair. The first event was held in February 2008. Over 1000 ECS students were able to discuss graduate jobs and summer placements with 33 leading-edge technical and engineering companies who took part.

The enthusiastic response from companies and students means that the ECS Fair will be held again on Tuesday 2 February 2010, supplementing the University’s annual Engineering and Technology Fair.

Many of the company representatives at the ECS Fair were ECS graduates, now working for companies such as Ernst & Young, Siemens Roke Manor Research, Selex Comms, Nokia, Detica, and IT Innovation. You can share the atmosphere of the Fair in our podcast.

From October 2008 ECS has had its own Careers Hub web site, enabling employers and students to get the best out of our strong relationship with industry and business.

Meet our students: Chris Campbell-Jensen

The ECS careers fair was brilliant! Lots of companies looking for tech employees had stands and seemed genuinely interested – even in us first-year students! Fingers crossed I might end up getting a summer internship .

Chris Campbell-Jensen did indeed gain a summer internship with Nokia as a result of the Careers Fair.
